Transmission – forward progress redefined.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT embodies undiluted dynamism and performance. To optimally send the rich torque of the powerful V8 engine to the rear axle and consequently to the road, the engineers decided in favour of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission.

The design principle of the transmission comes from motorsport and has already delivered impressive proof of its suitability for everyday use in the legendary SLS AMG. In the Mercedes-AMG GT it has now been advanced thoroughly. It consists of two sub-transmissions, each equipped with a clutch. When changing gear, one clutch is engaged as the other is opened. This means the transmission shifts virtually without any interruptions in tractive power.

The transmission system is located in a transaxle position at the rear axle and features a rigid link to the engine via the torque tube. The Mercedes-AMG GT has a mechanical limited-slip rear differential with a fixed locking rate.

The electronically controlled rear differential installed in the Mercedes-AMG GT S can furthermore dial-in defined locking rates within milliseconds. This allows increasing traction as required and positively affecting the self-steering characteristics of the vehicle.

The transmission facts at a glance:

  • Transmission settings coupled to the three driving programmes (Mercedes-AMG GT S with four driving programmes) from comfortable to extremely sporty
  • Automatic double declutching function for downshifts
  • Three different driving programmes from comfortable to extremely sporty as well as a Race Start function (Mercedes-AMG GT S with four driving programmes)
  • Dynamic acceleration for maximum driving pleasure through upshifts at full throttle
  • ECO start/stop function and Sailing mode in driving programme C
  • Outstanding traction with integral limited-slip rear differential (Mercedes-AMG GT mechanical, Mercedes-AMG GT S electronic)
  • Optimal gear-ratio fit thanks to small changes in engine speed
  • Partial ignition suppression during upshifts leads to an emotionally charged sound
  • RACE START function for optimal acceleration
