The cornering light function provides significantly improved safety during the night when turning corners at poorly lit intersections. When the vehicle is cornering the front fog lamp on the inside of the curve is adjusted to provide significantly better illumination of this area. The cornering light function automatically switches on at a vehicle speed of up to 40 km/h if the main headlamps are switched on and the indicator is activated or the steering wheel is turned.
The front fog lamps take on the cornering light function, which is controlled based on information on speed, steering angle and which way the driver wishes to turn. Using this data the control unit can always ensure the proper functioning of the cornering light in the most diverse driving situations: at intersections, in a roundabout or also when reversing.
The intelligent electronic system does not switch the cornering lights on or off abruptly: instead they fade in or out with a dimmer function. This gives the human eye time to adapt to a change in lighting conditions.
